What a year! Everything seemed to go by so fast. When I sat down and began writing our end of the year report, I was blown away by how productive we were as a Chapter. As I sit here and review our work, I am happy to report that we have completed all of our National Programs, including My Brothers Keeper, Project Alpha, Go-To-High School, Go-To-College, and a Voteless People is a Hopeless People.
Furthermore, our mentoring program, Knights of Gold, flourished thanks to Bro. Anderson Elridge and a group of dedicated hard working brothers committed to changing the lives of young high school male students. We also generated key partnerships with local organizations in the Miami Community including partnerships with Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., 100 Black Men of South Florida, Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department, Miami-Dade Elections Department;and Footprints Across Haiti.
We amended our Constitution and By-Laws and established an investment committee to manage our investments. Our charitable efforts were tremendous as we successfully executed our annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway and Alpha Tree toy giveaway for Christmas, which resulted in over 200 toys being donated to needy families living in Overtown.
All of our efforts would not be possible without the commitment on the part of Brothers to pay their dues. Additionally, Brothers dedicated themselves to supporting our fundraising initiatives which all played a contributing factor in us having the resources needed to conduct official Chapter business. On October 22, 2016, we have an opportunity to raise $20,000 for our Education Foundation. If everyone contributes to the cause, there is no doubt we will be successful.
Our bond is stronger, and although we may engage in spirited dialogue from time to time, the band of brotherhood, which ties us together in the name of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will never be pierced or broken. Ever!
